My first student, M McCauley has published her first, first author paper. So many firsts! This paper examines the behaviour of UV plasmons at the surfaces of topological insulators and how they are affected by molecular coatings. The work demonstrates that even though molecules like C60 bind weakly to TI surfaces, they have profound effects on the orbital symmetry and localisation of surface charges.

With Peter Petrov of Imperial College London, we explored the pi plasmons (these are important for understanding the bonding state of interfaces) in the Topological Insulator Bi2Se3 when it is interfaced with graphene.
This is an important system to understand because graphene is used to encapsulate Bi2Se3 for applications in quantum technology. Our publication in Scientific Reports is available at:

My colleagues from the Leeds University Condensed Matter Physics Group (also known as Stonerlab) have reviewed the current state of neuromorphic spintronics. This field uses magnetism and spin currents to create devices that perform neuromorphic computing, a kind of novel computing architecture inspired by the brain. We each cover one area of major development, from reservoir computing to metal oxide junctions to skyrmionics, looking at progress so far and future developments.
